Event Description
|
It was reported that a patient underwent an initial knee arthroplasty on (b)(6) 2020.During the procedure the 3.2 drill broke while in use during a total knee arthroplasty.The tip of the drill was stuck in the patients femur.An inter-op x-ray was taken to locate the exact location.The surgeon attempted to retrieve the broken piece.The attempt was unsuccessful and the decision was made to leave it.

This follow-up report is being submitted to relay additional information.Reported event was confirmed by review of x-rays by a third party hcp noting a broken end of drill bit seen in the distal femur.Bone quality appears normal.Dhr was unable to be reviewed as the lot number for the device is unknown.The root cause is unable to be determined.If any further information is found which would change or alter any conclusions or information, a supplemental will be filed accordingly.Zimmer biomet will continue to monitor for trends.
