Event Description
Information was received from a consumer regarding a patient receiving bupivacaine and morphine and fentanyl via an implanted infusion pump.It was reported the patient's pump/therapy had never worked for them. The hcp tried multiple different medication in the pump and it didn't help with their pain.It was noted when the patient was on morphine they got really sick. The latest drug in the pump was fentanyl. They planned on taking out the pump since it wasn't helping but about 4 months ago when they were going to start the surgery, the patient had too high sugar level (patient has diabetes) and they weren't able to administer anesthesia so they had to reschedule the explant surgery.Another surgery was scheduled but the hcp had to cancel. The next surgery was scheduled for the 12th of january and the patient had been given oral oxycodone for their neuropathy and pain in the stomach however they were running low on it.The hcp told the patient they should have enough medication in the pump to go until the 27th.The patient had not heard the pump alarm go off yet and the pump was at minimum rate. The ptm was not set up to work.
