Event Description
Information was received from a healthcare provider regarding a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for unknown indications for use.It was reported that the patient experienced a burning sensation in their back.The patient reported that they showered after biking and after the shower they were still wet and were drinking a glass of water while watching a thunderstorm from the window.When a lightening strike hit the ground the patient felt a burning sensation in the back and thinks he got hit by the stimulator, a power surge.The patient reported that the flesh on his back was fried.There was no unconsciousness and no skin damage.The patient turned off the device and turned it on again.When he turned it on again it worked normally.The issue was resolved at the time of report.It was further reported that the patient was checked at the hospital and measured impedances were in line with previous measurements between 670-807 ohms.No problems found.Case was closed.
