The product was not returned to abbott vascular for analysis.A review of the lot history record identified no manufacturing nonconformities issued to the reported lot that would have contributed to this event.Additionally, a review of the complaint history identified no other incidents and/or complaints reported from this lot.In this case, the device was prepped prior to use without any leak noted, which would suggest that the device was not damaged prior to use.The investigation determined the reported balloon rupture appears to be related to case circumstances of the procedure. In this case, based on the reported information, it is likely that during inflation, the balloon outer surface became compromised and/or damaged against the damaged stent resulting in the balloon rupture at 11 atmospheres.Based on the information reviewed, there is no indication of a product quality issue with respect to manufacture, design, or labeling.

It was reported that on (b)(6) 2021, a percutaneous intervention was performed on the right common iliac artery with heavy calcification.A non-abbott covered stent (icast) was placed with possible stent damage due to the extreme calcification. For post-dilatation, an armada balloon catheter advanced without issue.During dilatation, the balloon ruptured at 11 atmospheres. The device was removed, and another armada was successfully used in replacement. The balloon rupture was thought to be from the non-abbott covered stent damage. There was no adverse patient effect and there was no clinically significant delay. No additional information was provided regarding this issue.
