A review of the device history record (dhr) was conducted which confirmed that the product met all quality criteria and manufacturing specifications prior to release.There is no information to indicate that a malfunction occurred.Allergic or adverse reactions are known risks of hemodialysis.The nxstage user guide and instructions for use include allergic reaction as a potential risk associated with dialysis therapy and also include warnings to monitor for potential allergic reactions.Biocompatibility of the device has been established.
 
Event Description
A report was received on 07 oct 2021 from the nurse of a (b)(6) year old male patient with a medical history including end stage renal disease, who stated the patient experienced an allergic reaction approximately twenty minutes into his second in-center hemodialysis treatment on (b)(6) 2021.The patient experienced a hot flushed face, facial/lip swelling, and hives on his face, neck and back.Treatment was terminated without rinseback, emergency medical services were called and ¿emergency allergy medication¿ was given.Symptoms improved and transport to hospital was not required.Additional information was received on 11 oct 2021 from the nurse who stated the patient did not experience any additional symptoms and the reported symptoms improved within an hour after administration of intravenous (iv) benadryl 50mg and iv solumedrol 125mg.Per the nurse, the patient continues to treat at the facility with the same nxstage device.
