Event Description
|
It was reported that the patient fainted and emergency medical services (ems) were called.The patient was brought to the hospital emergency room with asystole.The patient was intubated and has brain damage.The cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemaker (crt-p) was not pacing and could not be interrogated, despite several different types of programmers being used.An external pacemaker was used and an old competitor device was programmed back on.The crt-p is no longer in use and remains in the patient.No further patient complications have been reported as a result of this event.

It was further reported that the patient made a full recovery and was able to have the crt-p explanted and replaced.At the time of the replacement procedure the crt-p was able to be successfully interrogated without issue.

Additional info received indicated when the external pacemaker was used it was asynchronous pacing.It was also further reported that even with the wand from the programmer a magnet response on the electrocardiogram was not seen for the crt-p.It was noted that prior to replacement of the crt-p the device still was not pacing.
