Event Description
Information was received from a foreign consumer via a manufacturer's representative regarding a patient receiving bacentra (500 mcg/ml at an unknown dose) via an implantable infusion pump.It was reported the patient felt very ill when they went for their post-op checkup.The pump had been implanted on (b)(6) 2021 and the event date was reported to be (b)(6) 2021.The side of the implant was swollen, inflamed, and painful.The patient was admitted to the hospital to check for infection of which the results were positive and they were scheduled for explant.Blood samples were sent to the lab to determine the cause of infection; the results indicated staph aureus.The pump was explanted on (b)(6) 2021.The pump was discarded by the customer.The issue was not resolved, however, the patient status was reported as alive - no injury.Further complications were not reported.
