Event Description

Medtronic received information regarding a navigation system being used during a posterior cervical spine procedure. It was reported that the site stated they were 5mm off with the probe. The surgeon also noted that the software was behaving slowly. The site rebooted the system and after re-verifying the instruments, both the slowness and inaccuracy resolved. The suspected cause was that the slowness may have caused a delay in the navigation, which could explain the inaccuracy seen. This issue occurred intra-operatively and caused a surgical delay of less than one hour. There was no impact on patient outcome.
