Event Description
Information was received from multiple sources (manufacturer representative, healthcare provider) regarding a patient who was receiving fentanyl (700 mcg/ml at 399.46 mcg/day) via an implantable pump for other chronic/intract pain (trunk/limbs) and spinal pain indications.It was reported that there was swelling/fluid developing around the pump in the pocket.The physician drained the pocket of fluid.It was unknown if there were any factors that may have led or contributed to the issue.There were no falls.The pump pocket was drained and fluid was sent to the lab.It was believed to be a seroma.There was no drug in the fluid.The fluid was drained.The pocket was revised and the pump was anchored down and the patient was required to wear abdominal binder for 6 weeks.The issue was resolved at the time of report.The patient's medical history was asked but unknown.The patient's status at the time of report was alive - no injury.
