Event Description
Information was received from a consumer regarding a patient receiving morphine 40mg/ml at 7.994mg/day via an implantable pump.The indication for use was non-malignant pain.The patient reported they had an infection as soon as they came home from the pump replacement surgery.There was pus coming out of the incision site.The patient has been on antibiotics ever since and they are going to remove the entire system tomorrow.The infection is located behind the pump.The patient asked if they could ever have the pump again since it had helped them a lot.

Event Description
Additional information was received from the patient who reported their pump and catheter were removed.The patient was told due to mass infection, yet all the cultures came back negative.The patient further stated that when their pump was changed due to eol (end of life) of the pump batteries on (b)(6), 2022 was when the pump or the catheter one began to leak morphine into the pocket for the pump.
