Event Description
|
Information was received from a consumer regarding a patient receiving dilaudid and bupivacaine via an implanted pump.The indication for pump use was non-malignant pain.The patient reported that she believes that her pain pump has stopped.She stated that she had been in full withdrawal since about 4:15 am today and "it's really bad".She stated that she had called her healthcare provider (hcp), but they needed to contact and get approval from her insurance before they could do a test on the catheter.

Additional information received from a healthcare provider (hcp) reported that the patient's symptoms included sudden severe anxiety, restlessness, chills, sweating, diarrhea, and dysuria.The hcp advised the patient to take oral dilaudid and clonidine which helped with the patient's symptoms for 2 hours but the symptoms ramped back up again.It was noted that the patient was under assumption that something was wrong with the pump.They interrogated the pump and no alerts or errors came up.The patient was authorized for a dye study which will be scheduled.

Additional information was received from a patient via a manufacturer representative (rep).At the time of this report, the pump was used to deliver unknown morphine with a concentration of "5mg" and dose of ".9298mg".The patient was also reported to be taking bupivacaine.It was reported that the patient experienced withdrawal symptoms.The patient's pump was replaced on (b)(6) 2022.Prior to going into surgery, the patient mentioned that she thought her pump was malfunctioning.It was indicated that no diagnostics or troubleshooting occurred and interventions or actions were taken.Environmental, external, and patient factors that may have led or contributed to the issue were not applicable.At the time of this report, the issue was resolved and the patient status was "alive-no injury".It was indicated that the event occurred pre-operatively.
