Information was received from multiple sources (manufacturer representative, healthcare provider) regarding a patient who was receiving dilaudid (hydromorphone) (18mg/day) via an implantable pump for spinal pain indications. It was reported that at the patient's routine replacement for normal battery depletion, the healthcare provider (hcp) discovered some questionable tissue. The pump was encapsulated with a calcified-like material. The hcp explanted the existing pump and closed up the patient without replacing. They wanted to wait for a pathology report before proceeding with replacement to ensure it was medically appropriate to do so.There were no external factors involved. The event was not resolved at the time of the report.
