Event Description
|
Information was received from a patient (pt) regarding an implantable neurostimulator (ins).The patient stated they had their dbs system explanted due to an infection.The caller stated that on two different occasions, they believed february 20th and one other date that was unknown, they had their stitches removed, and that during one of the removals, the doctor counted 20 staples and 9 stitches and those had all been removed before march 2nd, when the patient had to go in and had all internal components removed due to a harbored infection.The caller stated the march 2nd removal date, the doctor's had used glue even though the pt was allergic, and that after they were released and were at home, the glue was so bad that their chest incision had popped open, requiring them to go back.The caller also mentioned that during the removal surgery, they believed a machine that would hit them in their right chest was used and inquired if ps knew anything about that.Patient services (pss) reviewed and the caller was not sure if that was just part of the procedure or what it was.The caller stated that since the removal, they spent about 4 months in the hospital for recovery and that it was awful.The caller stated that they were told the infection was resolved, and that since removal, all they noticed was that they had pain in their head.The caller was redirected to their healthcare provider to further address the issue.

Additional information received from the healthcare provider (hcp) reported the entire system was removed on (b)(6) 2022 following a chest wound infection at the battery site.
