|
Medtronic received information that during implant of this transcatheter bioprosthetic valve, the patient developed cardiac tamponade and went into cardiac arrest due to an aortic arch dissection.Percutaneous cardiopulmonary support (pcps) was emergently used.The procedure was transitioned to a thoracotomy operation.An ascending aorta replacement was performed and the transcatheter valve was explanted.The operation was completed and the patient left the operating room "without any problems".No additional adverse patient effects were reported.No additional adverse patient effects were reported.

Event Description
|
Additional information was received that the cause of the aortic arch dissection was noted to be inadequate control of the patients blood pressure which resulted in high blood pressure, which resulted in the dissection.The ascending aorta replacement and valve replacement were noted to be successful and the patients cardiac function was restored.It was reported that the valve and the delivery catheter system (dcs) did not cause or contribute to the dissection.

Additional information was received that following the valve implant, a cerebral infarction was observed and the patient suffered a severe nerve disorder which remained.No treatment was reported.No additional adverse patient effects were reported.
