Event Description
|
Medtronic received information that three days following the implant of this transcatheter bioprosthetic valve, atrial fibrillation was observed.While preparing for defibrillation, transient aphasia and left paresis were observed.Multiple small embolisms were observed via head magnetic resonance imaging; cerebral infarction was noted.Subsequently, the symptoms were not observed.During hospitalization, rehabilitation continued.Thirteen days later, the patient was reported to be recovered.No additional adverse patient effects were reported.

Additional information was received indicating that the patient did not have any permanent impairment as a result of the cerebral infarction.It was noted that prior to the valve implant procedure, the patient¿s aortic valve area measured 0.35 cm2 with a pre-operative pressure gradient of 121.4 millimeters of mercury (mmhg).
