Event Description
|
Information was received from a healthcare provider (hcp) via a manufacturer representative (rep) regarding a patient who was receiving morphine, 25 mg/ml at 1.2 mg/day via an implantable pump.It was reported that the patient became somnolent, nonresponsive and was not able to be awoken approximately 24 hours after the pump was implanted. The patient was fine after surgery and during the day prior to the potential overdose. An environmental factor that could have contributed to the issue was the patient taking morphine by mouth the day of surgery. As a diagnostic, the patient was placed on narcan drip and the pump was interrogated and turned down to a minimum rate. After the narcan drip, the patient became coherent and responsive. All the programming was correct on the pump and no alarms were noted. The patient was going to have the dosing recalibrated the week of (b)(6) 2023.The issue resolved and the patients status was alive-no injury at the time of the report. The patients weight and medical history were asked but will not be made available.
