On july 28, 2023, the mentor analysis lab received the suspect medical device for evaluation.Paperwork received with the device provided a patient identifier and the appropriate field has been updated.Additionally, the patient underwent a primary breast augmentation surgery to implant the suspect medical device. On august 06, 2023, mentor completed an evaluation on the returned device.Mentor conducted a visual inspection of the device.Visual analysis of the returned sample revealed that the breast implant had two (2) areas of shell abrasion one of them on the anterior view and the second one on the posterior view.In addition, two (2) tears (a and b) were found within each area of shell abrasion, measuring approximately 3.0 cm and 0.2 cm respectively. The evaluation determined that the cause of the ruptures is consistent with normal wear.Shell abrasion suggests in-vivo folding or creasing of the device. This may be the result of the following factors: continuous and sustained stresses to the device such as too small breast pocket and folding or wrinkling of the shell in the breast pocket. In some cases, the breast implants may also wear out over time.Manufacturer¿s reference number: (b)(4).
