The instructions for use for the ijs-e system include contraindications advising against use on patients with "insufficient quantity or quality of bone (bone loss greater than 30% of the total articulation or involving an entire column of the distal hunerus, coronoid bone loss of 50% or more) and/or soft tissue".Review of fluoroscopic images from the case revealed that the patient had poor bone quality which may have adversely affected the mechanics of the device.Additionally, the instructions for use warn that potential construct failures "may occur as a result of non-compliance to post-operative rehabilitation, excessive elbow activities or construct overloading".The surgeon believes that the patient may have been noncompliant, leading to failure of the device.
