According to the reporter, the unit had high spo2 readings. The patient with extensive traumatic injuries especially in the pulmonary area arrived from surgery. The intention was to wake the patient up and extubate the patient after the operation. The patient had saturation tracking active using forehead saturation sensor because no other saturation sensor would plot anything. The monitor showed strange; unexplainable saturation dip, because of these several blood gas controls were performed. One of the dips also triggered bronchoscopy and thorax scan. However; nothing out of the ordinary was found. The machine settings were at times adjusted based on saturation values with the intention of detoxifying the patient. The settings were at times increased then again decreased based on monitor values.Eventually the extubation could be performed before the shift ended. After the extubation the monitor displayed saturation values in the range of 99-100%.The patient was connected to airvo and the settings were gradually reduced. Then suddenly a blood gas control sample showed o2 was 7.9.While at the same time the monitor was plotting 100%.There was no patient harm/injury reported.
