Event or Problem Description
Medtronic received information regarding a thermal therapy system being used during a soft tissue ablation (neuro) procedure. It was reported that they experienced a noisier than usual temperature map.The mri had produced noisier image than usual that same day in a previously logged case using flex coils, but in this case we used the standard head coil.Similar imaging artifacts were observed in the map, but it was worse in some areas. It was later determined that their head ring they left the patient in had a component that caused additional imaging artifacts. The area of ablation was not impacted by artifacts, but the imaging just looked noisy and less representative of their usual experience.Ablations proceeded successfully.Upon removal of the first of two catheters it was noted the tip was melted and post-imaging showed a little blood in the same region where the tip would have melted which is consistent with our understandings. No expressed patient impact as of close of procedure and no delays experienced.

Additional information was received. It was reported that the site had since determined that many of their relative tmap imaging artifact issues were due to the anesthesia machine being too close to the gauss line.Subsequent cases have been better.
