A user facility reported that a patient experienced severe blistering of the arm 1 day post fraxel treatment to the face and arm.Two arm scars had been treated by the fraxel laser and one of them blistered. The patient was treated with mupiricon and ice.As of three weeks post-treatment, the blister was reportedly healed with the area still red.A full healing is expected within nine weeks of treatment a fraxel treatment was performed 1 month previously with the same settings and same areas. The reported skin type recorded for the patient is fitz skin type ii.The wavelength used to perform treatment with the 1550 is as follows: tx level 8, 60 joules, 8 passes and actual 20 kj.Overlapping passes were used for this treatment. No system errors occurred; however, the user was concerned the device may not have been balanced, otherwise nothing out of the ordinary was noticed during treatment. The treatment tip used in this treatment has been used to treat other patients without issues. It is unknown how many times it was used.A burn paper test was not performed prior to using the tip.Although no specific treatment was reported, the extended duration from the event onset to the expected resolution suggests that medical management or intervention beyond the standard of care may have been required. Therefore, this case is classified as a serious injury.
