Event or Problem Description
It was learned through implant patient registry that a patient with a 31mm 11400m mitral valve was explanted after an implant duration of 4 months due to unknown reasons. The explanted valve was replaced with a 31mm 11400m valve.Edwards lifesciences maintains an implant patient registry. This registry is a patient tracking mechanism for serialized edwards implantable devices (bioprosthetic heart valves and annuloplasty rings), rather than a true post-market surveillance registry.Through the registry, edwards is notified when these devices are implanted. In addition, patient and/or device status may be reported to the registry via the implantation data cards. The information is received from various sources (e.G.Surgeon, hospital, and patient family members) and is not received in the form of a conventional 'customer complaint'.The information reported may or may not be related to the edwards device.

Event or Problem Description
It was learned through implant patient registry and medical records that a patient with a 31mm 11400m mitral valve was explanted after an implant duration of 4 months due to mrsa prosthetic valve prosthetic valve endocarditis. The patient presented with a fever. The explanted valve was replaced with a 31mm 11400m valve. The patient tolerated the procedure well and was transferred to cvcc in stable condition post procedure.Per medical records, the patient presented with a fever of 104f and was dry heaving.Initially thought to be a viral infection, but blood cultures were positive.Pre-op tee revealed large vegetation of mitral leaflets and severe mitral regurgitation.Redo mvr was performed to remove infected 31mm 11400m mitral valve and replace it with a new 31mm 11400m valve. The patient tolerated the procedure well and was transferred to cvcc in stable condition post procedure.Per pathology report, portion of heart valve implant with acute and chronic inflammation and gangrenous necrosis.Possible vegetation are appreciated on the valve leaflets.Edwards lifesciences maintains an implant patient registry.
