A device history record review was completed for provided material number 305760 and lot number 2403006.The review did not reveal any abnormalities detected during the production process that could have contributed to the reported defect and all quality tests were found to be within specification. To aid in the investigation of this issue, two (2) needle samples were received for evaluation by our quality team. The needles were both opened and used and both needles presented broken safety shields. After examination, it can be confirmed that the safety shields broke from the ¿pivot¿ area (plastic part which is directly assembled to the hub component).(b)(4) retained samples of the same lot number were obtained from the manufacturing facility for an additional review. The retained sample safety shields could be activated properly without any issue.Considering the provided information, we understand that the reported defect took place during use, when the safety shield was activated. We would like to inform you that the material used to manufacture the eclipse needle has been selected and tested to resist normal conditions of use.In addition, our assembly process has a system that inspects all product for proper opening and activation of the safety shield, rejecting any defective product identified. We would like to inform you that every single lot is tested prior to release for final safety shield activation test (the force required to activate the eclipse hypodermic safety needle product). We can confirm that the reported lot was released within specifications.Based on this fact, we cannot discard that the handling of the product may have had an impact in the issue reported. At this time, further action has not been determined necessary. Our quality team will continue to closely monitor the manufacturing process for signs of this potential defect and any emerging trends.
