Event or Problem Description
It was reported that during a bilateral laparoscopic hysterosalpingo-oophorectomy procedure, the needle broke while on vaginal suturing, resulting in a metal fragment being retained in the patient.Multiple instrumental diagnostic tests, including x-ray, were conducted to locate the needle fragment and assess for migration. The fragment was determined to be not free or migrating and was left in place. The event led to an extended hospitalization of 4-5 days for further clinical and diagnostic investigations, as well as readmittance to the hospital. An additional new suture was used without issue.
