Event or Problem Description
|
|
It was reported that the patient presented to the hospital due to implantable cardioverter defibrillator (icd) shocks.Given the patient had a single chamber icd, it was difficult to assess if the shocks were due to atrial fibrillation (af) or atrial flutter (afl) with rapid ventricular response (rvr), versus a true ventricular arrhythmia. The device had detected the arrhythmia as ventricular fibrillation (vf). The physician chose to remove the icd and upgrade the patient to a biventricular icd system; the patient also underwent atrioventricular (av) nodal ablation.A post-procedure diagnosis indicated that the patient experienced complete heart block. No further patient complications have been reported as a result of this event.
