Additional Manufacturer Narrative
The cobas e 801 analytical unit serial number is (b)(6).The customer stated that the event occurred in 19 cases out of 69,079 patient samples (0.028%).The investigation determined that the specificity of negative elecsys hiv duo results, followed by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) or western blot negative confirmatory testing, is 99.97%.This rate remains within the established lower and upper confidence limits. The investigation determined that false reactive results may occur with the elecsys hiv duo assay because the specificity is less than 100%.Product labeling states: "interpretation of the results numeric result - coi >/= 1.00 result message - reactive interpretation/further steps - reactive in the elecsys hiv duo assay. All initially reactive samples should be redetermined in duplicate with the elecsys hiv duo assay.Redetermination of samples with an initial coi = 1.00 can be performed automatically." "for diagnostic purposes, the results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient¿s medical history, clinical examination, and other findings." the updated version of the elecsys hiv duo assay has the same specificity as the previous version (product registration 07229542190), as only the biotin intolerance was increased. The assay is performing according to specifications. The investigation did not identify a product problem.
