Event or Problem Description
It was reported that the patient had a new battery replaced on friday.Caller stated that when the patient was in the recovery room after the surgery, the patient experienced what they described as shocks to the left side of their body 2-3 times.Caller said the shocks stopped when patient was sitting up, but since then the patient has been getting shocks occasionally when they are lying down.Caller mentioned that they put a message into the patient's doctor and messaged the neurologist, and talked to a person from the surgical team who told them that it couldn't possibly be caused by the battery, but the primary neurologist was less definite about what the cause might be.Agent reviewed that we can't rule out that it's not the dbs that is causing the shocks, and reviewed options to turn stimulation down or off.Caller did not know if the doctor had given any advice to turn stim down, and said they hadn't tried to control the device for monitoring yet.Caller stated that the patient does not want anyone outside the healthcare provider making adjustments to the stim.Caller stated that they would read the manual and call patient services back if they decide to turn the implantable neurostimulator off or if they want to turn the stim down. The patient was redirected to their healthcare provider to further address the issue.
