It was reported that pericardial effusion (pe) and cardiac tamponade occurred.A left atrial appendage (laa) closure procedure was performed under transesophageal echocardiography (tee) and intracardiac echocardiography (ice) guidance.Baseline imaging demonstrated no pe.Transseptal puncture was performed using a versacross system with a fixed curve sheath. The patient had very challenging laa anatomy with shallow usable depth and both posterior and anterior lobes.Multiple recaptures and repositioning attempts were performed, and a 31mm watchman flx pro closure device was implanted.Approximately two hours after the procedure, while in the post-anesthesia care unit (pacu), the patient became hypotensive.Imaging identified a pe with cardiac tamponade.Pericardiocentesis was performed, and approximately 250 ml of fluid was removed and transfused back to the patient. The patient remained hospitalized beyond the standard of care.
