Event or Problem Description

A healthcare professional reported that a patient experienced paradoxical adipose hyperplasia in the abdomen following multiple coolsculpting treatments administered from (b)(6) 2026.The applicator used was initially unknown, and the event occurred approximately 4.5 months after treatment. The healthcare professional later reported that treatments were performed as follows: (b)(6) 2026: abdomen treated using a curve 150 applicator. On (b)(6) 2026: abdomen and flanks treated using a curve 120 applicator. And on (b)(6) 2026: abdomen and flanks treated using a curve 150 applicator.Healthcare professional described: "photos show a more obtuse abdomen, which is higher in shape/contour and focally pointed compared to baseline" and "palpation reveals a remarkable "step off" or in this case "step up" to this central obtuse portion of abdomen. The tissue transitions from a very soft region, to a very firm/rubbery quality".

Additional Manufacturer Narrative
Abbvie¿s medical safety determined that the event is consistent with possible post-treatment paradoxical hyperplasia (ph). This is a known potential adverse event addressed in the product labeling.According to the coolsculpting user manual, under rare adverse events, paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (ph/pah) is characterized by a visibly enlarged tissue volume within the treatment area, which may develop two to five months after treatment.Surgical intervention may be required.Pah is not related to any coolsculpting device failure mode but it is included in the risk management files of the device because it is a risk that is inherent to the use cryolipolysis for localized fat reduction.A supplemental report will be submitted if additional information is obtained.
