|
It was reported that the tubing of a clearlink set appeared to be discolored.The reporter stated that the tubing was used with a sigma pump and it had turned blue.Dextrose 5% with 1/2 normal saline and 20meq potassium chloride was being infused.There was no patient injury or medical intervention associated with this event.No additional information is available.

The device was received for evaluation.Visual inspection revealed that there was blue liquid inside the set.The liquid was further analyzed by liquid chromatography (lc) with ultraviolet-visual spectroscopy (uv-vis) and mass spectrometry (ms) and was found to contain methylene blue.This compound is commonly used in clinical settings as a dye or stain, and often added to saline or other iv solutions for infusion.Methylene blue is not used during the manufacture of this device.The cause of the condition could not be determined.A batch review was conducted and there were no deviations found related to this reported condition during the manufacture of this lot.Should additional relevant information become available, a supplemental report will be submitted.
