A medtronic representative went to the site to test the equipment. The hardware, software, and instruments passed the system checkout. The system was found to be fully functional. The emitter demonstrated no faults and the tracking remained consistent through out system checkout. The emitter was replaced as a preventative measure. The suspect emitter was returned to the manufacturer for evaluation.Functional testing and visual/physical examination could not duplicate the reported problem. The system remained in green status during all testing and flexing the cable does not indicate any opens. The emitter was fully functional.

A site representative reported that, while in a functional endoscopic sinus surgery (fess) procedure, the emitter on the navigation system was intermittently producing a field. The site could initially track fine, but then halfway through the case but then the tracking stops. When the cable at the back of the emitter was reportedly "barely touched" by the site, it starts working again. There was no delay to the procedure and no impact on patient outcome.
