Event Description
|
It was reported from (b)(6) that during a femoral diaphyseal fracture surgery, it was observed that the radiolucent drive device stopped working while the surgeon was drilling at the distal end of the femur.According to the surgeon, the drill did not hit the nail and the quality of the patient's bone was good.There was a delay in the surgical procedure; however, the exact duration of the delay was not specified.It was not reported if a spare device was available for use.It was reported that the surgery was completed successfully.There was patient involvement reported.There were no reports of injuries, medical intervention or prolonged hospitalization.All available information has been disclosed.If additional information should become available, a supplemental medwatch report will be submitted accordingly.

This device was returned for service; however, did not meet manufacturing specifications during pre-repair assessment.During repair, it was determined that the reported condition was not confirmed.A functional assessment was performed and the device passed all tests and no failures were identified.The device worked according to the specifications.Therefore, an assignable root cause was not determined.If information is obtained that was not available for the initial medwatch, a follow-up medwatch will be filed as appropriate.
