Product complaint #: (b)(4).Opened boxes with unopened samples of product received for analysis.During the visual inspection of thirteen samples, there were no defects found on the packages. The samples were opened and the swage and attachment area were noted to be as expected; also, the tip and body of the needles no defects or needle breakage were observed. The sutures were dispensed without problems and examined along of the strands and no defects were observed.Functional test was performed on the samples by resistance test to needles and the needles meet the requirements. The manufacturing records were reviewed and the manufacturing/packaging criteria were met prior to the release of this batch.Per the sample condition no performance -breakage needle were found.A failed suture needle was submitted for evaluation. The component was identified to assess the fracture mode of the failure.A fracture was observed in the body of the needle. The needle was received in two pieces, only one of the mating fracture surfaces was examined for this evaluation.A scanning electron microscope was used to examine the fracture surfaces and surrounding area of the needle. The fracture surfaces were examined in multiple locations in order to determine the fracture mode. The evaluation of the fracture was predominantly intergranular, which is evidence of a brittle failure. This was a non-ductile fracture.
