Event or Problem Description
Medtronic received information that approximately two years and eight months post implant of this annuloplasty ring, echocardiogram revealed a mean gradient of 7 mmhg and an exercise gradient of 16 mmhg.Approximately two months following, cardiac catheterization identified an increased mean gradient of 13 mmhg which peaked over 26 mmhg with exercise.Ultimately two years and ten months post implant of the annuloplasty ring, the ring was explanted and replaced due to severe stenosis.During the explant procedure, significant calcification in the trigone areas of the anterior leaflet and along the base of the posterior annulus was identified. The physician indicated much of the valve orifice obstruction was due to the subvalvular apparatus. No additional adverse patient effects were reported. .
