Product complaint # = > (b)(4).The spotlight rigid arm was returned to the complaint handling unit for evaluation. There was no immediately observable damage to the device. All three of the arms move as intended without resistance. The large knob could be tightened and loosened without issue, which would hold the arms in place. The smaller knob, however, could not be turned normally.Tools were required in order to force it to rotate. The resistance was uniformly high when rotating the knob. While there is no readily visible damage, cross-threading, or rust, the knob at the end of the device cannot be operated as intended.Galling, rust, and/or wear is suspected based on the uniform feedback from turning the knob. This may be the result of being used for some 8 or more years.A review of the device history record was conducted. No issues were identified during the manufacturing and release of this product that could have contributed to the problem reported by the customer. The root cause of the knob being difficult to turn cannot be determined from the sample and the information provided.A potential root cause may be wear to some of the arm¿s internal components, which may include galling and rust.It has been noted that the device has been in the field for 8+ years. As there has been no issue identified in the manufacturing or release of the device that could have contributed to the problem reported by the customer, this complaint file will be closed with no further action required. If information is obtained that was not available for the initial medwatch, a follow-up medwatch will be filed as appropriate.
